Physiotherapy and coronavirus
The novel coronavirus (COVID-19); Making a connection between infectious disease outbreaks and rehabilitation.
Listing out some important points from the article:
- The Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19): Making a The connection between Infectious Disease Outbreaks and Rehabilitation
- exercise and resistance to infection
Firstly, What is the connection between the physiotherapy and rehabilitation in the context of infectious disease outbreaks?
- There is a high likelihood of survival rate after the exposure of the infectious disease, physiotherapy can mediate the deleterious pulmonary respiratory and immobility complications.
- Secondly, The rehabilitation can offer a cost-effective strategy that can reduce mental and emotional disturbances and improve quality of life during and after the medical intervention.
- Thirdly, as we all believe in evidence-based practice and study, In 2003 SARS(Severe acute respiratory syndrome)
Lau et.al, reported that patients who took part in a physiotherapist-Supervised exercise program improve their cardiorespiratory and musculoskeletal fitness.
During Ebola virus outbreak, Howlett et.al, have highlighted the critical role of a physiotherapist who is specially trained to treat patients with infectious disease, relieving that patients who contracted Ebola had "marked improvement in symptoms after intervention"
Physiotherapy management for COVID 19 in an acute hospital setting.
This study suggests the important physiotherapy intervention in clinical setup and the safety measures for the physiotherapist before treating the patient.
The above-mentioned information is for my physiotherapy friends because we all should know that we play a major role even during virus outbreaks and to others who mock me for doing nothing in this quarantine period.
Finally, this is for everyone in common.
The relationship between the exercise and resistance to infection,
We all know that exercise can keep us safe, healthy, fit etc.,
So there is evidence for that but for this also only a few studies have been published that exercise will improve the immune system in common.
I don't want to explain all the physiology behind it,
A study suggests that moderate exercise can improve resistance to upper respiratory tract infections.
And also suggest that high-intensity exercise will increase the risk of the UTRI.
This evidence shows that we all can do MODERATE EXERCISE Daily during this quarantine period. You can ask me, whether am doing it or not, yes I've started exercising one hour per day, and hope you all will not complain the bloggers and fitness enthusiasts for posting work out videos.
Stay safe, do moderate exercise and improve your immune!
